MoD Joint Headquarters Building
Northwood wins Partnership Bulletin Award 2011
David Lees, whilst at Scott Brownrigg, lead the bid winning concept design and initial implementation design development of all the new buildings and masterplan for the c.£3.5billion PPP project (£160 million construction value).
The MoD Permanent Joint Headquarters Building, part of the Northwood HQ PPP Project, won the Partnership Bulletin Awards 2011 for “Best Operational Project”. Now in their 13th year, the awards, formerly known as the Public Private Finance Awards are judged by the most respected names in PFI/PPP and are recognised as the highest accolade available to the industry. The 170,000 sq ft BREEAM “Excellent” building is the new United Kingdom Joint Forces Headquarters and Multi National Force Headquarters.
It forms the focal point of the regeneration project which also includes new Single Living Quarters, Church, Communal Building, Maritime Operations Centre, gatehouse, sports hall, crèche and nursery, all designed by David Lees. The Headquarters building was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh on 6 May 2010. It adjoins the existing NATO HQ building and provides radically more effective, secure and distinctive new accommodation. It will enable the implementation of step-change efficiencies in the operational planning and control of UK Joint Forces in locations worldwide.
